SEARCHING FOR THE SAINTS

Today me and Dr Johan went to seep in some culture and by that I mean proper Brisbane culture ie The Saints. In the glorious weather we made our way over to the corner of Milton and Petrie where the Saints had their own Club 76 right opposite those days police station. We think we saw the right house if it still stands today otherwise we were at least very close to the actual location. After that we headed over to Brisbanes West end where the Im stranded single was recorded. Since we did not have any idea where that studio was located we just hung around there for a while feeling the atmosphere. In an hour we leave for the QSAC Stadium where we are playing tonight w AC/DC. Life could be worse…

Ah the sweet feeling of sitting down on the stairs getting creative and semipretentious w some grip tape and a new Hives deck. I reckon my grip tape job scores about a 3 out of 5 on the semi classic grip tape job scale. The deck is the coolest thing I have ever owned and quite possibly the coolest thing ever made.

FESTIVAL IDEA

Hallå där young ones and dumb ones!

I have just had my thinking cap on and I think I may have just invented what I may or may not call a rockfestival.

"What the F#"k is that?" you may ask.

Well then, my foulmouthed curious friend, picture this without trying to shoot the idea down like a clay pigeon, and fly with me here instead for a couple of sentences!

Here I go:
1. Big grassy lawn
2. Food
3. Beverages (mostly cold ones) Ive written down beer on the envelope Im using to write all this down and it sounds like a keeper.
4. Stages and PAs and stuff
5. My favourite bands

Ha ha yes!!!

I know it may take a year or so for people to get used to the idea but after that I think it will shoot off like nothing out there. I have decided that we (The Hives) are gonna play.

Furthermore I know I wanna add more stuff here but right now my head is spinning from some sort of InventorsVertigo so I am just gonna hyperventilate and move on.

I will consider this idea Shareware, you can use it and temper with it as you like cause Im going to bed in a short while. This downer is because Im catching a plane to Argentina tomorrow. This might need some explaining if you dont already follow The Hives on social media so I ll add a short note on The Hives status:

Hives Status:
We are, if you didnt already know, in South America via Guadalajara Mexico at the moment doing shows both with and without the great Arctic Monkeys and we just did two (one with AM and one without) BEYOND amazing shows in the fair city of Bogota Colombia. The Hives applaud you back Colombia and we cannot wait to come back. Next up: Argentina.

I ll get back to you on that "rockfestival" (still just a working title) idea, but for now...

NICK ARSON DJs ON HOME TURF!

Oh what a treat it was to make ones way down to Götis bar in in my hometown Fagersta, Sweden last Saturday for the premiere night of Fagerstas new rockclub Mikisklubben

I very seldom go out and do DJ sets but this was a real hoot so maybe I should more often. Tons of people came out to support, take part in and first and foremost enjoy the local rock scene and some food and drinks. The two local rock acts that brought the house down this time were Bruket and R.I.F

Next time, March 29, we look forward to seeing Swedish punk legends Asta Kask (one of the most important bands for The Hives) and Stilett

As I did get asked a bit what gems and nuggets I was playing during my 15 min (2,5h) of turntable fame I just thought Id share a list of some of them in case you wanna check out some great music.

Adventures in South America 2013

We had not been in South America for close to five years when the offer to play the Lollapalloozas in Brazil and Chile showed up on our desk. We wanted to play more than just the two Lolla shows however, so a festival in Argentina and a couple of headline shows (including one in Lima, Peru where we had never been before) were added. We had such a good time that we now decided to share some memories of when the Lex Hives tour passed through this great part of our planet. 

After seven weeks in the U.S.A. we said goodbye to North America and on March 30th we landed in South American soil- in Sao Paulo, Brazil to be more exact.

That evening our dear friends Queens Of The Stone Age were gonna play their first show after being in the studio for a long time, we would not wanna miss that so off to the festival we went. Show was great and it was a pleasure meeting up with the guys again.

We had a lot to discuss after not seeing QOTSA for a while. The following night it was our turn to take the stage. Just look at this massive crowd.

We received nice gifts from Sony Brazil. Nicks new favourite possession, finally he got his own Brazilian soccer jersey.

April 1st we did a headline show in Porto Alegre, again a great night - even though it was hot as hell. April 2nd we were leaving for Buenos Aires, or at least we thought so....

Due to bad weather and the worst floods in Buenos Aires in a very long time, flights were cancelled and thus began one of our worst 24 hour periods of all time. We tried every possible way to get to Buenos Aires and after about 16 out of those 24 hrs were spent in the airport, finally we were able to get a hold of a couple of jets to get us there barely in time for the show.

April 3rd: "What? is it true? Do we actually have a plane? Can we go to Buenos Aires?" Happy rock band and hired guns in shape and form of jet pilots.

TRIUMPH!

Need I tell you that the show in Buenos Aires was pretty damn great too? Did not think so. After the show, dinner with QOTSA that eventually turned into a party with a third band, Pearl Jam. Good times in other words! [*photos removed by censors*]

April 4th: Lots of fans welcoming us with open arms when we got to Santiago, Chile.

April 6th: Pre show ritual in Santiago, Chile. This was a first. Fantastic show! Is that a ninja caught in the picture, no it cant be.

Nick thinks his guitar sounds better if he lies down sometimes. Howlin lovin every second of it.

On April 7th, our day off, we were invited to visit the winery Casa Del Bosque, beautifully located about an hour from Santiago. Great day with great wine and great food. To the left you can see winemaker Grant Phelps.

On April 8th we arrived in Lima, Peru for the first time ever, and what a welcome from our fans! After some press that night we were taken to this restaurant located right at the sea, good times. The hotel was a great place to charge up the batteries for our last South American show on the Lex Hives Tour.

April 9th: Our crew, making it happen every night.

We were told Peruvians always want a little extra, so we played 20 songs that they´ll remember for the rest of their lives. What a great night it was. Vigs guitar needed some well deserved rest after that one.

April 10th. Morning of the travel home day people wanted to check out an old pyramid that they found under a motocross track not many years ago, pretty spectacular. Vig brought his biggest camera cause he was told the pyramid was pretty damn big. There was also a very old person and very big pieces of rock.

Thank you so much South America for coming to the shows and making the whole trip a magnificent one! Hopefully it wont take us another five years to get back.

5 April 2013 Brasil, Argentina and Chile!

Phew!

Resting in the hotel in Santiago Chile after a couple of days of pretty full on stuff.

After our tour de force at Lollapallooza Brasil we went down to Porto Alegre for our own headline show. The show was a steam bath but one of the most fun shows in a long time. Thanks everyone present!

After that we had flight mayhem for 2 days with cancelled flights and logistic nightmares and spent most of our time asleep on the floor in the terminal. It ended in us coming to the show in Buenos Aires pretty much right before walking on stage but thanks to the greatest crew in the world and other people around us (also they the best in the world) we could pull off a show that would later be known as The Buenos Aires Miracle! Yes I did just make that up but its true nonetheless! See picture!

Made it safely the day after to Santiago Chile where we met some great fans and we are now very excited to play tonight! It will be the bomb!

21 February 2013 Austin to Houston!!! Hey Yalls and Yallettes! Last nights show in Austin at EMO'S was a real hoot! We were back at the venue were we lost our US show virginity back in 1999. It was then called the Backroom. Great to meet our friends in the Flesh lights again too and their families. Thanks to everybody who showed up and made the night a night to remember!!! Today we are back on the Pink run and Houston is on the agenda. Should be sweet! Also did an interview today with a journalist in Lima Peru where we are going in a couple of weeks.
